Bearcats End Season With Two Losses
JOPLIN, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State women's soccer team ended its season with two losses over the weekend. The Bearcats lost 5-4 decision to Southwest Baptist on Saturday. On Sunday, the 'Cats dropped a 4-0 game to Central Missouri State.
On Saturday, Northwest found themselves in a hole early as Southwest Baptist scored two goals early to go up 2-0. The Bearcats rebounded as they reeled off three straight goals to take a 3-2 lead. Sarah Wallace (Sr., Raymore, Mo.) tied the score at two-all when she rebounded her own shot and beat goalkeeper Chantal Cole. Baptist then knocked the go-ahead goal into their own net to give Northwest the lead. Southwest Baptist scored with six minutes remaining in the first half to tie the score at three going into halftime.
In the second half, Southwest Baptist scored two more goals while Northwest could only manage one goal. Baptist scored the two goals late to take a 5-3 lead. Wallace scored her second goal of the game to pull the 'Cats within one, but Southwest Baptist held on for the 5-4 victory. Michelle Goold (Fr., Independence, Mo.) allowed five goals while making nine saves in the game.
On Sunday, the Bearcats headed to Warrensburg to take on the Jennies of Central Missouri State. The Bearcats dropped the match 4-0 giving up three goals in the first half. The Bearcats couldn't muster much offense as they only got off five shots in the whole game. Meanwhile, the Jennies collected 31 shots, 16 on goal. Goold made 12 saves in net for the Bearcats, but gave up four goals. Renee Judd (Jr., Pukalani, Hawaii) had two of the five shots to lead Northwest offensively.
The Bearcats finish the season with a 3-15 overall record and a 2-10 record in the MIAA.
