Bearcats End Four Game Skid, Win 4-0
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State's Women's Soccer team ended its four game losing streak Saturday as they topped Southwest Baptist, 4-0. The 'Cats ended their shutout streak at 171 minutes.
Northwest controlled the ball for most of the game. The Bearcats got off nine shots in the first period, hitting paydirt once. Jill Anderson (Soph., Gladstone, Mo.) put in her own rebound for the Bearcats first goal of the game. The goal was Anderson's fifth on the season, a team high. The 'Cats continued shooting, but couldn't put another one in before half and led 1-0 at halftime.
The second half proved to be a defensive struggle for most of the half, but the Bearcats took advantage of a tired Bearcat team to put three goals in the last eight minutes of the game. Emily Winter (Fr., Omaha, Neb.) scored her second goal of the season to give the 'Cats a comfortable 2-0 lead, Winter took a pass from Heather Kolbo (Fr., Nevada, Iowa) and put it in the left corner of the goal. Sarah Wallace (Soph., Raymore, Mo.) added to the lead five minutes later off a feed from Winter and put it in the far right corner of the goal. Christine Collins (Soph., Council Bluffs, Iowa) added the final goal for the Bearcats with nine seconds left to play in the game. Kathie Leach (Sr., Lincoln, Neb.) made four saves in the game recording her fourth shut-out of the season.
Northwest improves their record to 5-11-1 and 3-7-1 in conference play. The Bearcats wrap up their season tomorrow as they face Missouri-Rolla. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at Bearcat Pitch.
