Mavericks Hand Bearcats 8-1 Loss
OMAHA, Neb. - The Northwest Missouri State's Women Soccer team lost its third consecutive game Wednesday as they fell to the Mavericks of Nebraska-Omaha. The 'Cats however, ended their scoreless streak of 212 minutes in the first half.
The Mavericks jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first 18 minutes of the game and had one player with a hat trick. Brandy McSorely and Stephani Kirby hooked up for three goals with McSorely getting the goal and Kirby getting the assist on each goal. Joni Pusateri (Soph., Belton, Mo.) ended the Bearcats scoreless draught at 212 minutes as she picked up a loose ball 15 yards out and shot in to the left side of the goal to get the 'Cats on the board.
Neb.-Omaha added two more goals after Pusateri's to take a 6-1 lead into the half. The Bearcats defense settled down in the second half as they allowed only two goals in the middle of the period, but could not muster any offense of their own.
Kathie Leach (Sr., Lincoln,Neb.) made 16 saves in the loss for Northwest who only managed three shots the whole game.
The Bearcats record drops to 4-10-1 on the season. Northwest wraps up their season this week with three consecutive matches. The 'Cats travel to Warrensburg on Tuesday for a rematch against the Jennies of Central Missouri State. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. at the football stadium on campus.
