Bulldogs Bite Bearcats, 4-0
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State Women's Soccer team lost its second consecutive game Wednesday as they fell to league leading Truman State, 4-0. This is the second consecutive game that the 'Cats have been shutout.
The Truman State Bulldogs used the opening minutes of each half to bury the 'Cats. Truman scored early in each half to put the 'Cats in a hole. Just seven minutes into the game, the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead on a rebound shot by Sara Murray. The game took on a defensive struggle after that as neither team scored the rest of the half.
Northwest's best scoring chance came late in the first half when Renee Judd (Jr., Pukalani, Haw.) and Brandi Sonnichsen (Soph., Denison, Iowa) teamed up for a 2 on 1. Sonnichsen's pass hit Judd in the right spot, but Truman's goalkeeper was there for the save.
Truman once again struck early in the second half as they scored their second goal of the game three minutes into the half. The Bulldogs would go on to add two more goals in the half, as the Bearcats couldn't manage to get the ball out of the defensive zone. Jennifer Gnefkow (Jr., Raymore, Mo.) led the 'Cats offensively as she took two shots on goal in the first half. Kathie Leach (Sr., Lincoln, Neb.) made seven saves in the losing effort.
Northwest falls to 4-9-1 on the season and 2-6-1 in conference with the loss. The 'Cats head to Omaha on Saturday for a match against the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
