'Cats Drop Third Game, 5-0 to Central
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State women's soccer team was shut out for the third consecutive game as they fell to Central Missouri State University, 5-0 on Saturday at Bearcat Pitch.
Central Missouri State struck quickly in the opening two minutes on a perfectly executed give-and-go from Teleshia Joseph to April Reyes. The goal for Reyes was the first for her today. The Bearcats tightened up the defense for the next 33 minutes, but couldn't capitalize to tie the game. Central struck again before the half, when Reyes scored her second goal to lead the Jennies to a 2-0 halftime lead.
Central scored three more times in the second half to account for the final score of 5-0. The Bearcats best chance to score came with 30 minutes left in the game when Raheema Qureshi (Fr., Sedalia, Mo.) sent a cross pass to Danielle Lawless (Fr., Denison, Iowa) who put the ball off the let post.
Defensively, the Bearcats caused 12 offsides, while committing only one themselves. Kathie Leach (Sr., Lincoln, Neb.) made six saves in the loss.
With the loss, the Bearcats fall to 3-7-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the conference. Northwest will be off until Saturday when they travel to South Dakota for a 2 p.m. kickoff against the University of Sioux Falls.
