Lions Blank 'Cats, 4-0
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State women's soccer team was shut out for the second game in a row as they fell to Missouri Southern State College, 4-0 on Tuesday at Bearcat Pitch.
The Lady Lions got on the scoreboard quickly when Keri Scheigel (Soph., Olathe, Kan.) took down a Lady Lion in the penalty area to set up a penalty kick for Southern's Ashley Munnelly. Munnelly buried the ball in the left side of the goal to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Munnelly continued the offensive explosion scoring two more goals in the first half to record the first hat trick for the Lady Lions this season. Southern led 3-0 heading to the half. Southern tacked on another goal seven minutes into the second half to account for the final score.
The 'Cats didn't muster much offense in either half as they only collected seven shots on the day. Jill Anderson (Soph., Gladstone, Mo.) recorded three shots for the 'Cats in the losing effort. Kathie Leach (Sr., Lincoln, Neb.) made three saves for Northwest.
With the loss, the Bearcats record slips to 3-6-1 and 2-4-1 in conference play. Northwest will be back in action on Saturday, October 6 when they take on the Jennies of Central Missouri State. Game time is set for 1:00 at Bearcat Pitch.
