MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State women’s soccer team saw their three game undefeated streak come to end as the Bulldogs of Truman State shut the ‘Cats out, 3-0.
The first half of the game was a defensive struggle as both teams struggled to get shots off. The Bearcats outshot the Bulldogs, 6-5 in the half, five of them were stopped by the Truman goalkeeper. Kathie Leach (Sr., Lincoln, Neb.) made three strops to keep the game scoreless heading to halftime.
The second half began much the same way the first half ended, a defensive struggle. The ‘Cats started wearing down midway through the second half, and Truman used a span of ten minutes to put the game out of reach for Northwest. Melissa Miller broke the scoreless tie at 72:51 as she beat Leach and buried the ball in the left corner. Truman would put two more goals in before the game was over to take a commanding 3-0 lead. The Bearcats best chance to score came off the foot of Gina Christianson (Soph., Fremont, Neb.) who took a shot that sailed just over the top of the goal. Leach made nine saves for the ‘Cats.
With the loss, Northwest falls to 3-5-1 overall and 2-3-1 in conference. The ‘Cats return to the playing field on Tuesday as they face Missouri Southern at Bearcat Pitch. Game time is set for 3:00.
