Northwest men roll in Oklahoma
TULSA, Okla. – A solid weekend was capped off Saturday with two dominating wins over Newman, 6-0, and an 8-0 victory over Arkansas-Fort Smith at La Fortune Park in nonconference play.
In the Bearcats’ first match Saturday morning, Northwest (13-3) raced out to another dominating victory over the Jets. Both teams retired before doubles after the Bearcats pulled ahead sweeping all six singles matches.
Jason Harris was impressive again at No. 6 singles as was Lluis Altimires at No. 3 singles. A win later in the day would see Harris’ record move to 10-1 at the No. 6 position while Altimires won his 13th match.
Saturday evening the Bearcats just kept on rolling.
For the sixth time this season the Bearcats shutout an opponent with the 8-0 win over UAFS.
Sergio De Vilchez breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles to improve to 11-4 on the year.
Alvaro Riveros also finished off Matt Tabler at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-1 for his 13th victory of the season.
The Bearcats return to action Wednesday as they host MIAA rival Washburn. Action at Frank Grube Courts is set for a 2 p.m. start.
