Bearcats drop tough match to Mustangs


WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Northwest Missouri State men’s tennis team saw its six game winning streak snapped with a 6-3 loss at Midwestern State Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats entered the match ranked No. 25 in NCAA-II and fell to 7-2 on the season. The Mustangs improved to 11-4 overall as the nation’s 31st-ranked team.

A strong showing from Sergio De Vilchez saw the No. 38th-ranked singles player pick up a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. The win came over No. 39 Luke Joyce.

Rafael Bugiga also picked up a win at No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 victory.

The Bearcats continue their spring break road swing as they travel to Lawton, Okla. to take on Cameron University.
