Northwest men roll past UMSL

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State men’s tennis team rolled to an 8-1 victory Saturday night over Missouri-St. Louis at the St. Joseph Indoor Tennis Complex.

The Bearcats improved to 3-1 on the season giving them their second straight win over a regional top 10 team. UMSL fell to 0-2 on the season with the loss.

Northwest swept doubles action with Dylan Bernatzky and Alvaro Riveros at No. 3 doubles and Rafael Bugiga and Guilherme Narducci at No. 2 doubles picking up identical 8-4 wins.

Heading into singles play the Bearcats rolled as 38th-ranked Sergio De Vilchez fought for a 7-5, 4-6, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles over Nils Mueggenburg.

Riveros continued his solid spring season moving to 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.

Jason Harris picked up a win at No. 6 singles as the sophomore improved to 4-0 with a dominating 6-1, 6-2 win over Nils Corrales.

The Bearcats jump into MIAA play next weekend as they travel to Nebraska-Kearney. Action with the Lopers is set to start at 2 p.m. at the indoor complex in Grand Island, Neb.
