Bearcats shine at Washburn Invitational
TOPEKA, Kan. – The Northwest men’s tennis team was triumphant during their trip across the border for the Washburn Invitational Saturday at Seaman High School.
In the A flight, Sergio DeVilchez won the championship match against Pascal Laucht with a score of 8-3. DeVilchez, a freshman from Spain, won his first three collegiate matches en route to the title.
In the B flight, Rafael Bugiga defeated Chance Joost in the championship with a final of 8-2.
In the C flight, Luis Altimires claimed the championship over teammate Brian Heifner at 8-3.
During doubles competition, DeVilchez and Altimires gained another win with an 8-6 victory over Pawel Grzegrzolka and Rodol Gauto-Mariotti of Rockhurst University.
The Bearcats will continue play on Sept. 21 at the ITA Regional Tournament in Springfield, Mo.
