Northwest blanks Truman 9-0
MARYVILLE, Mo. – After an emotional win on Saturday to claim head coach Mark Rosewell’s 900 career victory the Northwest Missouri State men’s tennis team finished off another emotional win on senior day winning 9-0 against Truman State Sunday afternoon.
The 26th-ranked Bearcats improved to 13-3 on the season and 1-0 in their first conference match of the season. Northwest returns to the court on Wednesday as they travel to face a familiar foe and former MIAA opponent Nebraska-Omaha.
The Bearcats saw a perfect sweep again in doubles action to lead heading into singles play.
Jason Harris jumped in at No. 3 doubles with Luis Altimires to claim an 8-4 win before breezing to a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles. Harris has won his last six matches and is now 2-0 in doubles play.
Northwest closed out singles play and shutout the Bulldogs to seal a 9-0 win over the long-time rival.
Paced by Mario Jakovljevic at No. 2 singles as he claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jake Ohlhausen.
Rafael Bugiga and Guilherme Narducci would have a slightly easier task as Bugiga won at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-1. Narducci also cruised at No. 4 singles winning 6-0, 6-1 over TSU’s Adam King.
