TULSA, Okla. – The Northwest Missouri State men’s tennis squad got back on the
winning track knocking regional foe East Central 6-3 Saturday in non-conference
action.
The Bearcats improved to 7-2 on the season as they continue their spring break road trip with a Sunday match at Southeastern Oklahoma. Northwest closes out its trip on Monday at regional foe Midwestern State.
After falling behind 2-1 in doubles action the Bearcats stormed back to take five straight singles matches for the win.
At No. 1 and No. 3 singles Calvin Patterson and Rafael Bugiga each picked up hard fought wins respectively. Patterson was a 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 winner as Bugiga need a tie break in the third set to win 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).
The Tigers, who are traditionally a tough regional foe and among the leaders of the Lone Star Conference, would not go quietly before Northwest finally, put the Oklahoma squad away.
ECU picked up its lone singles win at the No. 5 position before Luis Altimires notched a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles to seal the Bearcat win.
