Bearcats roll past Lopers

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Northwest Missouri State men’s tennis team continued its early season dominance taking a 7-1 win over Nebraska-Kearney late Friday night at the Elite Squad Tennis Club.

The Bearcats stayed perfect on the season as they moved their record to 3-0. Northwest continues its busy week as they welcome future MIAA foe Lindenwood to Frank Grubbe and High Rise Tennis Courts for the first true home match of the season.

The Northwest doubles squads continued its strong opening act as Calvin Patterson and Luis Altimires at No. 3 doubles and the duo Rafael Bugiga and Guilherme Narducci took identical, 8-4 wins.

Mario Jakovljevic and Jose Ortega closed out the doubles sweep winning No. 1 doubles 9-8 (7-5).

No. 1 singles Calvin Patterson pushed the Bearcats farther in front with a 6-3, 6-1 win.

Rafael Bugiga at No. 4 singles and Luis Altimires at No. 6 singles followed Patterson with 6-3, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-4 wins.

The Lopers got their only win at No. 3 singles as Jason Harris fell in a close match 7-6, 6-4.

However the afternoon belonged to Northwest fighting for close wins at No. 2 and No. 5 singles from Mario Jakoljevic and Guilherme Narducci.
