Northwest blanks William Jewell, 7-0
LIBERTY, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State men’s tennis squad returned to the court after more than a two-week layoff, picking up a dominating 7-0 win Wednesday over William Jewell at the Clayview Country Club.
The Bearcats improved to 2-0 on the young season after sweeping doubles action and racing to wins in No. 1-2-3 and 4 singles. The Cardinals fell to 5-3 on the year while No. 42 Northwest continues action on Friday in Kansas City against Nebraska-Kearney.
The duo of Calvin Patterson and Luis Altimires gave Northwest a jump start at No. 3 doubles with an 8-2 win. Mario Jakovljevic and Jose Ortega followed with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles before Rafael Bugiga and Guilherme Narducci gave the Bearcats a doubles sweep holding off Bronson Brassel and Max Cooper in No. 2 doubles 9-8.
In No. 1 singles Patterson continued his dominance taking a quick 6-0, 6-1 win from Shane Giannetti.
Northwest wrapped up the match as Jakovljevic earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles, and Jason Harris won at No. 3 singles, 6-4 6-2.
The clinching match came at No. 4 singles as Bugiga knocked off Cooper with a 6-3, 6-2 win.
The Bearcats take on Nebraska-Kearney Friday in Kansas City, before hosting their first home match Saturday afternoon against Lindenwood.
