Northwest falls at ITA Regional’s

BOLIVAR, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State men's and women's tennis finished their fall season over the weekend at the ITA Regional Championships on the campus of Southwest Baptist.

In men's action the Bearcats were without the services of Calvin Patterson, however Northwest was still able to fair well in men's doubles. The duo of Rafael Bugiga and Guilherme Narducci advanced to the Semifinals before falling to eventual champions, Carissimo and Margiotta of SBU, 6-4, 6-3.

Bugiga and Narducci took care of conference foes Fletcher and Pimenta of Washburn in the opening round before knocking off a doubles combination from perennial power Abilene Christian, 6-3, 6-4. The pair would also knock off regional power from Incarnate Word Lawson/Arias, 7-5, 6-3, in the quarterfinals before falling to SBU.

Also competing in men's doubles was Anthony Gromoutis and Lluis Altimeres, but the duo fell in their opening round match to Joyce/Meeks of Midwestern State, 6-2, 6-4.

In men's singles, the Bearcats were not as fortunate as only Altimeres and Narducci were able to advance to the second round. Narducci finished off Will Hale of Lincoln, but fell in his second round match with No. 1 seed Hans Hach of Abilene Christian, 6-4, 6-2. Hach would go on to win the men's singles title.

Altimeres, knocked off Ned Boone of Southeastern Oklahoma, by default before falling in his second round match with Cameron's Nicolai Ferrigno.

On the women's side the Bearcats faired only a little better in singles action than doubles, as neither doubles team was able to advance into the second round.

Erica Leston fell in her second round match to Cameron's Amanda Moberg, 6-1, 6-1, while Stephanie Mannix and Camila Quesada were ousted in their first round matches. Mannix fell to Hannah Kelly of Abilene Christian, as Quesada dropped a close, 6-4, 6-3 decision to Daughtery of Dallas Baptist.

An all ACU final of Micah Hermsdorf and Julia Mongin, saw Mongin take to women's singles title.

Doubles action was again dominated by ACU as the Bearcats' team of Leston/Mannix found eventual champ Kelley/Hermsdorf of ACU in the first round falling, 6-3, 6-3.

The combo of Quesada/Barteck also fell in their first round match, but pushed East Central's Valles/Mecanovic to three sets before falling, 5-7, 6-4, 10-7.

Northwest will host their annual Alumni Match on Oct. 21 over Homecoming Weekend to close out their fall season.
