Bearcats' season ends in regional
AUSTIN, Texas-22nd-ranked Northwest Missouri State's season came to an end Sunday afternoon in the NCAA regional tournament. The Bearcats fell to top-seeded and sixth-ranked St. Edward's 6-1. St. Edward's will now advance to the 16-team national tournament.
The doubles team of Malcolm Harrison and Daniel Quesada won their matchup 9-8 to get Northwest's lone point in the match. Harrison and Quesada won 16 consecutive doubles matches to end the season. The doubles team of Vijit Sehgal and Calvin Patterson were defeated by the 30th-ranked tandem of Mick Walter and Ned Boone 8-4.
In singles play Harrison lost just his second match of the season as he fell to St. Edward's Boone. Philip Hultquist fell in his match 4-6, 6-4 and 6-2.
Both Patterson and Giovanni Auricchio were leading their matches late in the second set before the match was ended after St. Edward's secured the victory.
Northwest finishes the season at 19-5 overall.
