Bearcats claim second-straight tournament title
KANSAS CITY, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State men's tennis squad won its second consecutive MIAA Tournament title Saturday morning as the top-seeded Bearcats defeated second-seeded Southwest Baptist 5-1.
Northwest rolled to the title, winning two-of-three doubles matches, and then won three singles matches to claim the victory. The Bearcats (19-4) were also leading in the three other singles matches that were unfinished once Northwest won the fifth point of the match.
The duo of Malcolm Harrison and Daniel Quesada continued their dominance with an 8-1 victory. The team Philip Hultquist and Giovanni Auricchio also won their matchup 8-1.
In the singles portion it really was a race to see who could finish off their opponent first. Vijit Sehgal won his match 6-2 6-0. While Quesada and Auricchio were also victorious in their singles matches with 6-1, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-0 wins, respectively.
Next for Northwest will be regional play beginning May 1. Regional site and times will be announced later.
