Bearcats end regular season with big win
MARYVILLE, Mo.-The 18th-ranked Northwest Missouri State men's tennis team closed out its regular season with a convincing 8-1 win over NAIA program and 11th-ranked Graceland Wednesday afternoon.
Northwest (17-4) swept all of the singles matches on the day with Malcolm Harrison leading the way with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Graceland's Remy Caffardo who is the third-ranked player in the NAIA. Vijit Sehgal and Giovanni Auricchio also won in straight sets with 6-4, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-2 victories, respectively.
Calvin Patterson won his match 6-7, 6-1 and 6-4, while Philip Hultquist won his matchup 6-4, 4-6 and 10-5. Daniel Quesada closed out the day with a 2-6, 6-4 and 10-1 victory.
In doubles play the duo of Harrison and Quesada won their matchup 8-2 and the team of Hultquist and Auricchio squeaked out a 9-8 win.
Northwest heads to Kansas City this weekend for the MIAA Tournament as the top seed. The Bearcats will face the winner of Emporia State and Nebraska Omaha at 11 a.m. on Friday.
