Bearcats head to Kansas City for MIAA Tournament
MARYVILLE, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State men's and women's tennis squads will travel to Kansas City as the MIAA Championship Tournament begins Thursday. The Bearcat men come into the tournament as the top seed after winning their second consecutive regular season conference title. The Northwest women are the four seed.
The Northwest men (16-4, 4-0 MIAA) are seeking their second-straight tournament title and second in program history. The Bearcats will face the winner of fourth-seeded Nebraska Omaha (8-8, 2-2 MIAA) and fifth-seeded Emporia State (7-8, 1-4 MIAA) at 11 a.m. Friday.
Northwest defeated Emporia State 8-1 back on March 17 in its MIAA opener. The Bearcats' match with Nebraska Omaha on Tuesday in Maryville was cancelled due to weather.
The Northwest women (11-12, 6-2 MIAA) will face a familiar foe in its first round matchup as the Bearcats will face Nebraska Omaha (8-8, 5-3 MIAA) Thursday at 5 p.m. Northwest defeated the Mavericks 7-2 on Monday night in Maryville.
The Bearcat women are looking for their fourth MIAA Tournament title in program history and first since 2009. Northwest finished the season winning five consecutive conference matches.
Also, the Northwest Alumni Association will be handing out free water during the events. Look for the green and white tent.
