LAWTON, Okla.-It was a tough day in Oklahoma for the Bearcat tennis teams on Friday. The Northwest Missouri State women fell to a pair of ranked, regional foes in Cameron and Incarnate Word, losing 5-0 and 5-4, respectively. The Northwest men also lost to a ranked Cameron team, dropping the match 5-3.

In the women's first match against Cameron, the 18th-ranked Aggies proved too strong for Northwest (8-10) in the shutout. Sureena Weir and Ashleigh Kaberline were the only two to play singles matches. The doubles team of Emily Hoffman and Alexis Bartek fell in their doubles match 8-3, while the duo of Weir and Alison Wulff were defeated 8-2.

Not all of the singles matches were played with Cameron due to time constraints.

Against Incarnate Word, the women won two-out-of-three doubles matches. The teams of Bartek and Kaberline and Weir and Wulff won their matches 9-7 and 9-8, respectively. In singles play, both Erika Leston and Weir won their match-ups in tough, three-set duels.

Leston won her match 6-3, 3-6 and 6-2 while Weir was victorious 4-6, 7-6 and 6-1 in her singles' competition. The women will return to action on Saturday as the Bearcats play another neutral court match. Northwest will face Central Oklahoma at 10 a.m.

On the men's side, the Bearcats (14-4) saw their four-match winning streak snapped by a talented Cameron squad. Cameron came into the match ranked just behind the Bearcats in both the national poll (19th) and the regional poll (4th).

Malcolm Harrison lost his first match of the spring against Cameron's Santiago Romero, losing 5-7 and 2-6. Calvin Patterson won his singles match 6-3 and 6-3. Vijit Sehgal won his match 5-7, 6-4 and 6-3.

In the doubles portion, only the team of Harrison and Daniel Quesada could snag a win. Harrison and Quesada won their doubles competition 8-3.

Northwest returns to action on Saturday when the Bearcat men will face 33rd-ranked Incarnate Word.
