Bearcats win fourth-straight
MARYVILLE, Mo.-The 18th-ranked Northwest Missouri State men's tennis squad tied a season-high on Wednesday afternoon with its fourth consecutive win. The Bearcats outlasted conference foe Washburn, 7-2 at the Frank Grube and High Rise tennis courts.
Malcolm Harrison and Giovanni Auricchio had the strongest days for Northwest (14-3, 4-0 MIAA) with both earning 6-1 and 6-2 victories. Harrison improved his record to 17-0 in the spring, while Auricchio is now 10-3 on the year.
Calvin Patterson won his match 6-2, 6-2 while Vijit Sehgal rounded-out the singles play for the Bearcats with a 7-5 and 6-3 victory.
In doubles play, Northwest looked sharp in winning all three matches. The duo of Sehgal and Patterson improved to 10-2 on the season with an 8-5 win. While the teams of Harrison and Daniel Quesada and Philip Hultquist and Auricchio won 8-2 and 8-0, respectively.
The men have a pair of matches on Friday as the Bearcats travel to Lawton, Okla., to face Cameron (Okla.) and Incarnate Word (Texas) in regional action.
