Northwest makes easy work of Newman
TULSA, Okla.-The 18th-ranked Northwest Missouri State men's tennis team made easy work of Newman on Friday afternoon as the Bearcats blanked the Jets 9-0. Northwest didn't drop a set in the victory.
Vijit Sehgal had the best day for Northwest (11-3) defeating Newman's Mark Riedl 6-1 and 6-1. Northwest's two nationally-ranked athletes, Malcolm Harrison and Calvin Patterson each earned victories. The 29th-ranked Harrison won 6-3 and 6-4 while 53rd-ranked Patterson was victorious 6-4, 6-2.
Philip Hultquist won his matchup 7-6 and 6-0, Daniel Quesada won 6-2 and 6-2 and Giovanni Auricchio closed things out for the Bearcats with a 6-3, 7-5 win.
In doubles play, the teams of Patterson and Sehgal and Harrison and Quesada each won their matches 8-2. The team of Auricchio and Hultquist won easily 8-3. The victory is the Bearcats' fourth this season where they have blanked their opponent.
Northwest returns to action in Tulsa on Saturday for a pair of matches against Arkansas-Fort Smith and Dallas Baptist.
