Bearcats fall to Division I foe
KANSAS CITY, Mo.-UMKC's Grant Fleming won the deciding matchup in Wednesday's men's tennis match against Northwest Missouri State. Fleming won a three-set match over Northwest's Calvin Patterson 4-6, 6-4 and 6-1 to give the Division I Kangaroos a 4-3 victory.
Northwest (10-3) won two singles matches on the day. Malcolm Harrison remained undefeated for the Bearcats defeating UMKC's Nino Hasandedic 6-3, 7-5. Giovanni Auricchio gave Northwest its other singles victory, winning 6-4 and 6-0.
The Bearcats earned the point in the doubles portion of the match. The team of Harrison and Daniel Quesada won their matchup 8-4 while the duo of Auricchio and Philip Hultquist won 9-8. UMKC is the conference favorite in the Division I Summit League.
Northwest returns to action on Friday as the Bearcats travel to Tulsa, Okla., for a trio of matches this weekend. Northwest faces Newman on Friday and Arkansas-Fort Smith and Dallas Baptist on Saturday.
