Northwest remains perfect in league play
KIRKSVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State lost just one game in two completed singles matches and cruised to a 5-0 win against Truman Thursday on the Truman Tennis Courts. The 19th-ranked Bearcats (9-2, 3-0 MIAA) have won three in a row and seven of their last eight.
Northwest's Calvin Patterson swept Truman's Mark Sturley, 6-0, 6-0, at number two singles and Malcolm Harrison beat the Bulldogs' Eric McCollough, 6-0, 6-1, at the top position. The other four singles matches were unfinished due to cold temperatures.
Northwest's Giovanni Auricchio and Philip Hultquist defeated Mike Merchant and Joe Murphy-Baum, 9-8, at number three doubles in the most competitive match of the day. Auricchio and Hultquist have teamed to win their last three. The Bearcats won the other two doubles matches 8-4 and 8-3.
