Northwest wins battle of ranked Bearcats
MARYVILLE, Mo.-No. 19 Northwest Missouri State remained perfect in MIAA play following a 7-2 win against No. 27 Southwest Baptist Tuesday on the Frank Grube and High Rise Courts.
The Bearcats from Maryville (8-2, 2-0 MIAA) won two of three doubles matches and five of six singles duals to get past the Bearcats from Bolivar (6-6, 2-1 MIAA). Northwest has won six of its last seven.
Northwest's Malcolm Harrison and Vijit Sehgal improved to 10-0 in singles play during the spring season. Harrison (No. 29) beat Domingos Carissimo (No. 45), 6-4, 6-7, 6-0, in a match of nationally-ranked players at the top singles position. Sehgal rebounded from a one-set deficit to top Jorge Palacios, 5-7, 6-4, 10-4.
Southwest Baptist's nationally-ranked duo of Carissimo and Jorge Margiotta (No. 31) beat Sehgal and Calvin Patterson, 9-7, at the top doubles spot. Northwest earned the other two doubles points with wins of 8-1 and 8-5.
