Bearcats top Tritons 8-1
ST. LOUIS - No. 19 Northwest Missouri State swept five singles matches - four in straight sets - and rode two forfeited points to an 8-1 win against Missouri-St. Louis Saturday on the UMSL tennis courts.
The host-Tritons (0-2) didn't field a sixth player which spotted Northwest a 2-0 lead. UMSL's lone point came at number two doubles where Andreas Hammar and Daniel Anthony beat Philip Hultquist and Giovanni Auricchio 8-6. Hultquist rebounded to beat Tim Bryant, 6-3, 6-3, at number three singles.
Chetan Panditi was the only Triton player to win more than four games in any set of singles play. Panditi took the first set against Calvin Patterson only to see Patterson rally for a 6-7, 6-4, 10-7 win. Patterson is the 53rd-ranked singles player in Division II.
Malcolm Harrison had little trouble with Andreas Hammar at number one singles and won 6-0, 6-1. Northwest's Vijit Sehgal beat Anthony 6-3, 6-2 at number four singles and teamed with Harrison to earn an 8-4 at the top doubles position.
