Northwest Plays Well at Washburn
Topeka, Kan.-The Northwest Missouri State men's tennis team opened its 2010 fall campaign on Sept. 3-4 at the Washburn Invitational with a strong showing.
The Bearcats won both the A and B draws and also produced the doubles champions at the tournament. Northwest's number one Malcolm Harrison, who went 23-3 last spring took the A flight. Harrison defeated Rockhurst's Ben Newell 6-3 and 6-2 in the finals.
Senior Calvin Patterson was victorious in the B draw. Patterson defeated teammate Giovanni Aurrichio in the finals 6-0 and 6-2. Daniel Quesada made it the semifinals of the C draw before being defeated by Rockhurst's Rodolfo Gauto 3-6 and 3-6.
Harrison and Vijit Sehgal won the doubles competition for the Bearcats. Harrison and Sehgal defeated Ben and Zach Newell of Rockhurst in the finals 8-5. It was the first time that Harrison and Sehgal were doubles partners.
Northwest will no compete again until Sept. 24 when they will travel to the Truman Tournament.
