Gennari Named ITA Regional Senior Player of the Year
MARYVILLE, Mo.-The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has announced that Northwest Missouri State senior Felipe Gennari is the recipient of the South Central Region's Senior Tennis Player of the Year Award.
A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Gennari is 21-10 in singles play and 24-6 in doubles play this season for a combined record of 45-16. He's played mostly at number two and three singles this season for the 21st-ranked Bearcats (21-4) and at number three doubles with partners Calvin Patterson and Daniel Quesada.
Gennari was named a first-team All-MIAA singles and doubles player last week and has combined for five All-MIAA awards for singles and doubles during his four-year career in Maryville.
In four seasons, Gennari has amassed a 64-31 record in singles play and a 67-31 mark in doubles. His 131 career wins place him seventh on Northwest's all-time list.
To be nominated for the ITA's senior award, the student-athlete must be ranked in the top 50 nationally or top 10 in the region and have contributed the most to his team in terms of leadership, sportsmanship, tennis performance and tennis improvement during his collegiate career.
