Bearcat Tennis Defeats Truman on Senior Day
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State tennis was victorious Sunday afternoon at the Frank Grube Tennis courts, as both the Bearcat men and women defeated Truman, on Senior Day for three Northwest student-athletes. Felipe Gennari, Veronica Castilla and Lisa Pendrak were all honored Sunday for their service to Northwest tennis.
The 41st-ranked Northwest women improved to 5-0 in the MIAA and 13-6 overall with a 6-3 win over the Bulldogs. Castilla, Sureena Weir, Lindsay Weideman, Brittney Browning and Emily Hoffman were all victorious in straight sets in singles matches.
The doubles team of Weir and Browning defeated Lauren Higgins and Kirsten Sampias of Truman 8-1 to give the Bearcats their lone doubles win of the match.
The No. 21 Northwest men improved to 18-4 overall and 3-1 in the MIAA with its 8-1 win. The Bearcats were dominant from start to finish, with Gennari and Calvin Patterson's 9-8 (7-5) doubles loss being the lone blemish.
Malcolm Harrison, Vijit Sehgal, Gennari, Patterson, Ryan Westerhoff and Giovanni Auricchio all picked up singles victories for Northwest and lost just one game during singles competition.
Up next, both Northwest squads will travel to Nebraska-Omaha on Tuesday afternoon to face the Mavericks in an MIAA tilt beginning at 4:30 p.m.
