Northwest Tennis Sweeps Rockhurst

KANSAS CITY, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State's men's and women's tennis teams extended win streaks Wednesday after both defeated Rockhurst in duals at Loyola Park. The men won 6-3 to push their streak to five games. The women won 5-4 to extend their streak to seven games.
The men's win against the 33rd-ranked Hawks gives the Bearcats (16-4, ranked No. 21) six wins against nationally-ranked teams this season. Northwest rebounded from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play to win five of six singles matches. Malcolm Harrison beat Rockhurst's Ben Newell at the top spot 7-5, 6-3. Northwest's Giovanni Auricchio won a 10-4 super tiebreaker against John Lazenby at the five position.
A 2-1 advantage after doubles play proved to be the difference on the women's side. Northwest's Lisa Pendrak and Veronica Castilla earned their seventh straight win at number two doubles. Sureena Weir and Brittney Browning defeated Rockhurst's Rachel Lanaghan and Christine Schatz, 9-7, at the three position. Northwest (12-6) has had the advantage after doubles play in six of its last seven matches.
Three matches remain for both Northwest teams before the MIAA tournament which is set to take place April 24 in Kansas City. Both teams will be home hosting Truman at noon Sunday.
