Gennari Named MIAA Athlete of the Week
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State senior tennis player Felipe Gennari has been named the MIAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the period ended April 11. It's the third time Gennari has been honored in his four-year career.
Gennari was 6-0 on the week in leading the Bearcats to conference wins against Washburn and Emporia State. Northwest also topped Baker to finish the week 3-0.
Gennari had the decisive point in a 5-4 win against Washburn Thursday. He teamed with Calvin Patterson to earn an 8-2 win at number three doubles, then with the score tied at 4-4, beat Simon Blondin 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 to clinch the match.
Against Emporia State Saturday, Gennari beat Spencer Pozek in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, at number three singles and earned an 8-1 win in doubles play with Patterson. He didn't lost a game in Sunday's match with Baker, beating Drew Richter 6-0, 6-0 at number two singles and earning an 8-0 win in doubles.
Gennari stands 16-10 in singles play and 19-5 in doubles play on the season. The Bearcats return to the court today against Rockhurst starting at 3 p.m. in Kansas City, Mo.
