Northwest Tops Graceland; Extends Streak to Four
LAMONI, Iowa-Northwest Missouri State's men's tennis team extended its winning streak to four with a 7-2 win against Graceland Tuesday. The Bearcats (15-4) have won seven of their last eight matches overall.
Northwest won two of three doubles points and earned four of its five singles points in straight sets. Giovanni Auricchio beat Manuel Lindekeit, 6-3, 7-5, at number six singles for his 10th consecutive win. Calvin Patterson made it seven straight singles wins following a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Daniel Ramirez at number four singles.
The Bearcats also won the two more competitive matches during the dual. Vijit Sehgal and Ryan Westerhof won a 7-3 tiebreaker against Jeremy Ackerer and Yassir El-Ghazi to earn a 9-8 win at number two doubles. Westerhoff later won a three-set match against Carlos Yanes, 6-2, 0-6, 6-2 at number five singles.
Northwest junior Malcolm Harrison lost to Remy Caffardo at the top singles position, 6-2, 6-4. It's just the third loss for Harrison this season. Yanes and Patxy Suarez beat Felipe Gennari and Patterson 8-6 at number three doubles for the Yellowjackets' other point.
