Bearcats Drop MIAA Opener to Southwest Baptist
BOLIVAR,Mo.-The 26th-ranked Northwest Missouri State men's tennis team lost its MIAA opener Thursday afternoon to No. 31 Southwest Baptist 5-3. Northwest falls to 11-4 overall on the year.
Northwest had just one victory in singles competition on the day as Calvin Patterson defeated Jorge Palacios 7-5, 6-3. Northwest's number one singles player Malcolm Harrison was defeated for the first time this season, losing to 30th-ranked Marton Zsiga 6-7 (0-7), 6-2 and 4-6.
The Bearcats would take two-of-three in the doubles competition as Ryan Westerhof and Vijit Sehgal defeated Brandon Finerty and Jorge Margiotta 8-5. Patterson and Felipe Gennari picked up the second doubles victory for Northwest winning 8-3 over Tyler Welch and Palacios.
Northwest will take the court again on April 7 as the Bearcats travel to Topeka, Kan., for a match-up with Washburn at 3 p.m.
