Northwest Tennis Sweeps William Jewell
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State's men's and women's tennis teams each earned an 8-1 win against William Jewell Tuesday, moving the men to 11-3 and the women to 7-6. An MIAA showdown with Southwest Baptist looms Thursday in Bolivar.
Northwest's teams combined to win 11 of the 12 singles matches in straight sets. Malcolm Harrison moved to 14-0 after beating Cody Pflugradt 6-2, 6-4. Giovanni Auricchio won his sixth straight singles match following a 6-1, 6-2 win against Chris Dailey.
William Jewell's men picked up their point at number one doubles where Pflugradt and Kyle Taylor teamed to beat Harrison and Oliveira 9-7. The loss drops Northwest's top doubles duo to 10-4.
Nikki Chambers' win at number one singles was the lone point for the Cardinal women. Northwest won the second sets of the other five singles matches 6-0.
Veronica Castilla and Lisa Pendrak teamed to earn an 8-0 win at number two doubles. Pendrak then beat Hana Lindbloom 6-3, 6-0 at number two singles while Castilla defeated Carli Bisesi 6-1, 6-0 at number three.
