Bearcats Dominate 25th-ranked Wildcats
ABILENE, Texas-One day following a one-point loss to 29th-ranked Midwestern State, the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats turned in one of their more impressive performances of the season in beating 25th-ranked Abilene Christian 5-1 Wednesday. Northwest held a one-set lead in three other singles matches when play ended.
Head coach Mark Rosewell made a small change to his lineup that paid big dividends. He flipped Felipe Gennari and Vijit Sehgal, who had been playing number two and three singles, respectively, and the duo responded. Sehgal ended a five-match losing streak by beating Luke Hawk in straight sets at number two. Gennari ended a six-match skid in topping Bryan Joiner 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 at the three position.
Sehgal and Ryan Westerhof improved to 10-2 in doubles play this spring after getting by Jared Hope and John Strahl, 8-6, at number two doubles. Northwest two of three doubles points and Malcolm Harrison and Raphael Oliveira earned a 9-7 win against Hawk and Joiner at the one position.
Harrison remained undefeated in singles play, 12-0, after sliding past Eldad Campbell 6-3, 6-1. Harrison has now bested the top player on seven nationally-ranked Division II teams and has a win against Division I Missouri-Kansas City.
