Northwest Falls 5-4 at Midwestern State
WICHITA FALLS, Texas-Midwestern State rebounded from a 2-1 deficit following doubles play to earn a 5-4 win against Northwest Missouri State Tuesday in a dual between two regionally-ranked foes. The loss drops the Bearcats to 8-3 while the Mustangs improved to 12-6.
All six singles matches were decided in two sets with only one set out of 12 needing a tiebreaker. The Bearcats got wins from top singles play Malcolm Harrison, who improved to 11-0, and Giovanni Auricchio at the six position. Midwestern State swept singles matches 2-5 to earn the win. Northwest's Calvin Patterson dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Daniel McMullan to fall to 8-2 this spring.
The Mustangs are the first team this season to recover from a 2-1 deficit against the Bearcats. Bo Zaputovic and Vjekoslav Stipanic, the top doubles tandem in the region and ranked 18th nationally, beat Harrison and Raphael Oliveira 8-6 at the one position. It's the third loss for Northwest's top duo this season.
The Bearcats continue their Spring Break trip Wednesday with a dual against 25th-ranked Abilene Christian.
