Northwest Gets Past A Third Ranked Foe
JENKS, Okla.-Northwest Missouri State's men's tennis team earned a 6-3 decision against 33rd-ranked East Central Friday, marking the team's third win against a nationally-ranked team this season.
The Bearcats' number two doubles tandem of Vijit Sehgal and Ryan Westerhof won a 7-5 tiebreaker against Stefan Stein and Sam Moore to help Northwest win two out of three doubles points. Daniel Quesada and Felipe Gennari won 8-4 at number three doubles for the other point.
Singles play was highlighted by a come-from-behind victory by Northwest's Malcolm Harrison against Andres Nunez at number one singles. Nunez took the first set 6-3, but Harrison rallied and won the final two sets 6-1, 6-3, to improve to 8-0 in singles play this season.
The Tigers earned points at number two and number three singles, but the Bearcats swept the final three singles matches in straight sets. The win moves 26th-ranked Northwest to 7-1.
