Northwest Knocks Off Cameron; Now 4-0
ST. JOSEPH, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State rode two 8-3 victories in doubles play to upset 20th-ranked Cameron, 5-3, Friday at the St. Joseph Tennis Club. The Bearcats, now 4-0, are ranked 26th nationally and sixth in the region while the Aggies are ranked third in the region.
Top Bearcats Malcolm Harrison and Felipe Gennari played a role in four points. Harrison teamed with Raphael Oliveira to score a win at number one doubles, then held a 6-1 lead against Diego Trojano at number one singles before Trojano ended the match due to injury. Gennari and Westerhof moved to 4-0 at number two doubles. Gennari then beat Carlos Viscarra in straight sets at number two singles.
The Bearcats fifth point came from Calvin Patterson at number four singles. He defeated Jorge Gerosi, 7-5, 6-2. Ryan Westerhof held a 6-2, 5-4 lead and was serving for the match against Jeff Sasser before time restraints forced the result to go unfinished.
Northwest continues its three matches in three days series with Missouri-St. Louis Saturday in St. Joseph, Mo. The Bearcats travel to Springfield to take on the Drury Panthers Sunday.
