Bearcat Tennis Starts 2010 With Two Wins
TOPEKA, Kan.-The 26th-ranked Northwest Missouri State men's tennis team opened its 2010 campaign with a pair of wins Friday. The Bearcats defeated Nebraska-Kearney 8-1 before topping Newman 5-2.
Junior-transfer Malcolm Harrison began his Bearcat career with four wins. At number one singles, he defeated Kearney's Josh Raymond 6-0, 6-1, and Newman's top player Jimmy Dunseith 6-1, 6-3. He teamed with freshman Raphael Oliveira to score two wins at number one doubles, including a 9-8 win against Dunseith and Chris King.
Northwest won all six doubles matches on the day. Calvin Patterson, who was 14-5 in singles play a year ago, started 2-0 at number four singles this season. Northwest senior Felipe Gennari, ranked No. 44 in the nation, defeated Kearney's Revel Yehezkia in straight sets, but lost a 13-11 super tiebreaker against King in the nightcap.
