Saulsbury Named Head Coach at Nebraska-Kearney

KEARNEY, Neb.-Former Northwest Missouri State player and assistant coach Jake Saulsbury has been named the head men's and women's tennis coach at University of Nebraska-Kearney announced today by Loper Athletic Director Jon McBride.

Saulsbury replaces Kent Schultz, who resigned in May to take a position with the USTA in Jackson, Miss.

"We think Jake has a very promising coaching career ahead of him," said McBride. "We're very pleased he is bringing his energy and enthusiasm to UNK and the Kearney tennis committee."

Saulsbury earned his bachelor's degree in parks and recreation in 2008 after completing his fourth season as a member of the Bearcat tennis team. He was a two-time, first-team All-MIAA honoree at Northwest. His 54 wins in doubles play rank 10th in program history.

A native of Lexington, Neb., Saulsbury spent the 2009 season as the Bearcats' graduate assistant coach. He was involved with all aspects of the program and aided both Northwest teams in advancing to the NCAA tournament.

Nebraska-Kearney's women (19-7) will return five starters from last year's Sweet 16 team while the younger Loper men (6-13) return last year's regional Rookie of the Year in Josh Raymond.

Other former players or assistant coaches from Northwest who currently hold head coaching positions include Kendall Hale (UMKC), Derek Mills (Santa Clara), Jarrod Smith (Drury), Owen Hambrook (UNLV) and Mark Ardizzone (DePaul).
