Gennari and Westerhof Unanimous on All-MIAA First Team
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Felipe Gennari and Ryan Westerhof were unanimous selections at No. 2 doubles as all seven Bearcat athletes earned some form of recognition in the All-MIAA teams announced today by the league office.
Giovanni Auricchio earned second-team honors at No. 4 singles while Daniel Usieto, Vijit Sehgal, Calvin Patterson, Tony Adeyemi and Gennari earned honorable mention honors.
The Bearcats continue their season as the No. 6 seed in the NCAA South Central Regional next weekend against St. Edward's.
Gennari and Westerhof went 4-0 during the MIAA season in doubles play and 10-6 during the spring season. Gennari went 15-8 this season with three different partners and is tied for eighth in program season win records.
Auricchio earned a spot on the second team with a 4-1 conference record in singles play. He went 12-8 overall during the spring season and won five matches during a six-match stretch from April 3-15.
The 39th-ranked singles player in Division II, Usieto went 14-7 at the No. 1 position and posted a 3-3 mark against regionally-ranked opponents. He defeated the region's No. 18 player, Justin Raiti of St. Edward's, in three sets April 17 to cap a five-match winning streak. Usieto is tied for third in program records with 17 singles wins this season.
Usieto also earned honorable mention honors at No. 1 doubles with Sehgal and combined to go 4-1 in conference play. The two are ranked No. 26 in the latest ITA national rankings and No. 3 in the South Central region.
Sehgal picked up duo honorable mention honors with a 13-8 record at No. 3 singles. He went 10-2 from March 24-April 22 and is tied for ninth in program records with 14 singles wins during the fall and spring seasons.
Patterson earned honors at both No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles in his freshman season. He shared the doubles honors with Adeyemi, who also earned honorable mention at No. 6 singles. The two combined for a 5-2 singles record and a 2-1 doubles mark during the MIAA season.
Gennari rounded out the honors at No. 2 singles with a 4-1 conference record. He stands No. 49 in the ITA national rankings and is tied with Usieto for third in program singles victories with 17 this season. Gennari went 3-2 against regionally-ranked opponents
