Bearcats Send Both Tennis Teams to NCAA Postseason
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State will send both men's and women's tennis teams to NCAA Regional competition for the fourth straight season as No. 6 seeds in the national brackets released today by the NCAA Division II Tennis Committees.
The Bearcat men will face No. 3 seed St. Edward's for the second time this season in first round action May 7. The Hilltoppers were 6-3 winners April 17 in Topeka, Kan. The victor will face No. 2 seed Cameron out of the Lone Star Conference May 8. The Aggies are hosting after finishing second in the Lone Star Conference Tournament last weekend.
The women face No. 3 seed Northeastern State May 7 in its 15th straight NCAA tournament appearance. The winner of that match faces the winner of No. 7 Central Oklahoma and host No. 2 seed St. Edward's May 8. The Hilltoppers are champions of the Heartland Conference while the Bronchos were semifinalists in the Lone Star Conference Tournament.
The Northwest men are making their 21st overall postseason appearance and 12th since the shift to the team format in 1983. The Bearcats are 8-3 in first-round action since 1995. The women are making their 15th overall appearance and will be looking to advance to the national "Round of 16" for the seventh straight year. The Bearcats picked up their 11th MIAA championship last weekend in a 5-3 win against Washburn.
Head Coach Mark Rosewell is 31-25 in postseason action at Northwest and is 789-354 overall in his 25 seasons with the Bearcats.
