
KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—Northwest Missouri State swept its third-straight opponent, this time downing Truman in an MIAA match Tuesday at the Truman Tennis Courts. The win is the eighth in nine matches for the 25th-ranked Bearcats (13-4, 4-1), who secured the number two seed behind Washburn in the upcoming MIAA tournament.
Northwest won five of the six singles matches in straight sets and Giovanni Auricchio won a super tiebreaker against Colin Boswell at No. 5 singles for the sixth point. Felipe Gennari improved to 16-4 with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Steven Hipkiss at No. 2 singles and Daniel Usieto moved to 15-5 with a 6-1, 7-6 victory against Peter Bracha at No. 1.
Usieto and Vijit Sehgal, now ranked 26th nationally as a doubles tandem, beat John Rothfusz and Kyle Schlotz, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles. Gennari and Westerhof scored a 9-8 win at No. 2 doubles and Tony Adeyemi and Calvin Patterson won 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.
It was just the third loss of the season for Truman (6-3) which dropped to 2-2 in league play.
