MARYVILLE, Mo.—Northwest Missouri State’s nationally-ranked men’s and women’s tennis teams each won their fourth consecutive matches with victories against Rockhurst Wednesday at the Frank Grube and High Rise Courts on Northwest’s campus.

The 39th-ranked Bearcat women (8-2) won two doubles matches and four singles duals to earn a 6-3 win. The 28th-ranked Bearcat men (9-3) swept doubles play to earn an 8-1 win.

Northwest’s women earned 8-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take an early 2-1 lead. Veronica Castilla and Jordan Lipira improved to 4-0 as a doubles tandem while Lina Gomez and Allison Wullf moved to 9-1.

Singles play was highlighted by straight set wins from Castilla, Wullf and Erika Leston. Leston won her 10th consecutive singles match and is 17-1 this season.

The final point came from Jordan Lipira at No. 3 singles, who avenged last season’s loss to Hannah Lazenby. Lipira won 6-4, 3-6 and 10-5 in a super tiebreaker.

Northwest’s men handed Rockhurst just its second loss of the season. The Bearcats nationally-ranked doubles tandem of Daniel Usieto and Vijit Sehgal pulled out an 8-6 win against Rockhurst’s Newell brothers, Zach and Ben. Felipe Gennari and Ryan Westerhof battled back from a 5-2 deficit to win a 7-5 tiebreaker.

Usieto, Gennari and Sehgal earned straight-set wins to sweep the top three singles matches. Ryan Westerhof beat Ryan Field, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 5 singles and Calvin Patterson won a 10-4 super tiebreaker against Adam Bales at No. 6 singles.
