MARYVILLE, Mo.—Northwest Missouri State’s men’s and women’s tennis teams remained unbeaten in MIAA play following wins against Nebraska-Omaha Wednesday at the Franke Grube and High Rise Courts on Northwest’s campus.
The 28th-ranked Bearcat men (7-3, 2-0 MIAA) earned their second 9-0 win in as many days while the 39th-ranked Bearcat women (5-3, 4-0 MIAA) won 7-2 to earn its 11th consecutive win in conference play dating back to last season.
Northwest’s men won 24 of 33 doubles games to jump out to a 3-0 lead before winning all six singles matches in straight sets. Felipe Gennari earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles and teamed with Tony Adeyemi to earn an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
Vijit Sehgal and Calvin Patterson each won 12 of 13 games to earn wins at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Daniel Usieto beat Marcus Hansen 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
Northwest’s women took a 2-1 lead in doubles matches before sweeping No. 2 through No. 6 singles. Rachel Faulk played a part in both Nebraska-Omaha points, beating Lina Gomez 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and teaming with Traci Moklestad to earn a win at No. 1 doubles.
Veronica Castilla and Erika Leston won all 12 games at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Jordan Lipira won in straight sets at No. 3. Lisa Pendrak at No. 2 and Allison Wullf at No. 6 each won three-set matches.
Next Up: Northwest travels to St. Louis Thursday to take on University of Missouri-St. Louis. Both men’s and women’s matches are slated to begin at 3 p.m.
