Northwest Tennis Sweeps Kearney

KEARNEY, Neb.-Northwest Missouri State's women's tennis team won two of three doubles matches and split six singles matches to beat Nebraska-Kearney 5-4 and help the Bearcats sweep the Lopers Tuesday. The Northwest men didn't drop a set in beating Nebraska-Kearney 9-0.
Northwest's win ended a nine-game winning streak by the Loper women (9-3). Both Bearcat teams stopped a two-game skid.
Jordan Lipira and Veronica Castilla were teamed together for the first time in doubles play this season and earned a crucial 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles for the Bearcats. The duo had played together in each of the last two seasons and improved to 20-5 as a doubles tandem.
Lina Gomez and Allison Wulff won 8-3 at No. 3 doubles for Northwest (5-2). The duo improved to 6-1 this season.
Gomez, Castilla and Erika Leston each scored straight-set wins in singles play to help the Bearcats clinch the match. Leston has won seven straight singles matches and improved to 14-1 this season.
The Northwest men moved to 6-3 and lost just 13 games in six singles matches in the process. Felipe Gennari and Vigit Sehgal earned 6-1, 6-0, wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Giovanni Auricchio shut out Casey Colbert 8-0 at No. 4 singles.
Next Match: Northwest's men's and women's teams return home and will host Nebraska-Omaha Wednesday at 3 p.m.
