Eighth-ranked Drury Tops Northwest 7-2

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-No. 8 Drury won two of three doubles matches and five of six singles matches to earn a 7-2 decision against No. 28 Northwest Missouri State Friday at Cooper Tennis Complex.

The loss drops the Bearcats to 5-2 overall with both losses coming against opponents ranked in the top 12.

Northwest's top singles player Daniel Usieto upset 38th-ranked Nahom Serekeberhan in singles play. The two split their first two sets and Usieto was leading in the third when Serekeberhan retired.

Drury won four of the five other singles matches in straight sets. Calvin Patterson forced a third set before retiring against Ivan Marevic at No. 6 singles.

Felipe Gennari and Ryan Westerhof, the No. 2 doubles team for the Bearcats, scored a 9-7 win against Anton Khadasevich and Juan Ponce. The win moves the duo to 5-2 to begin play in the spring season.
