
EMPORIA, Kan. - Northwest Missouri State will head to the MIAA Tournament with a five-match winning streak after picking up a 7-2 victory against Emporia State this afternoon.
Northwest (15-4, 3-1), ranked No. 31 nationally and No. 3 in the North Central Region, defeated the region's seventh-ranked Hornets (8-7, 0-4) for the 12th straight time since 1999.
Felipe Gennari and Vigit Sehgal won their fifth straight match as the region's sixth-ranked doubles team at the No. 2 position with a 8-6 win against Nathan Mai and Kevin Schoon. Gennari went on to win his singles match in straight sets against Schoon while Sehgal suffered a tiebreaker loss to Julian Rios at No. 1.
Daniel Usieto moved to 16-5 in singles play with a 7-5, 6-2 victory against Mai at No. 3 singles. It's the seventh straight singles win for Usieto.
The Bearcats claimed five singles points in straight sets after winning two of the three doubles matches.
