Bearcats Sweep Truman in 6-3 Matches

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - ( Men W 6-3) ( Women W 6-3) Northwest Missouri State tennis swept Truman State in a pair of 6-3 matches on the road in conference action this afternoon. The women win their fifth straight match and the eighth of their past nine, while the No. 35 men remain undefeated in conference play for their first win since April 5.

The Northwest men improve to 11-5 and 3-0 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play while the women move to 11-5 and 4-1 in conference action. The Truman State men moves to 12-5 and 1-2 in the conference and the women fall to 13-6 and remain winless, 0-4, in the MIAA.

Sophomore Daniel Usieto won his second straight match at No. 1 singles, defeating Ryan Cope 6-3, 6-4 for his first win against a regionally ranked singles opponent. Usieto paired with senior Pablo Acebedo in No. 2 doubles to defeat Kyle Schlotz and John Rothfusz 8-6 for the pair's ninth win in the past ten matches.

Freshman Lisa Pendrak and sophomore Jordan Lipira continued their winning streak in singles action, extending it to five matches in wins today. Lipira defeated Jessie Krause 3-6, 6-0, 10-5 in No. 5 singles while Pendrak won 6-2, 6-1 over Duyen Van in the No. 6 position. Sophomores Lina Gomez and Emily Lindsay picked up their eight win in a row at No. 3 doubles with a 8-1 win over Krause and Taylor Warden Lipira and freshman Veronica Castilla notched their seventh consecutive win at No. 2 doubles with a 8-5 win over Hannah Wittmer and Jennifer Salmon of Truman.

Both teams will conclude the regular season on Thursday, April 19, in welcoming Washburn at the Frank Grube and High Rise Courts. First serve will be at 3 p.m.

NOTES: The men have won eight straight against Truman State, dating back since 2000, to improve the overall series record to 21-10 in favor of the Bearcats ... The women have taken the last six from Truman since 2002 and now hold a 15-13 advantage over the Bulldogs in the all-time series ... A win over Washburn for the men will mark the first undefeated regular conference season for the Bearcat men since 2004.
